A simple strategy for making great decisions about everything!

My wonderful, beautiful sister bought me a copy of “The Rule of 10-10-10” by Suzy Welch many years ago and it was one of the easiest and most helpful reads because she provides a super simple decision making strategy that can be used for everything from what you’re putting in your mouth to how you’re living your life. 

 

Every time Suzi finds herself in a situation where there appears to be no solution that will make everyone happy, she asks herself three questions: 

 

What are the consequences of my decision: 

  • In 10 minutes? 
  • In 10 months? 
  • And in 10 years? 

 

HOW TO USE THIS SIMPLE STRATEGY 

 

Ask yourself daily: 

 

  • How will the choices and decisions I’m making now, this minute, about everything (how to use my time, energy, thoughts, focus, attention, body, my choices and decisions, about what I eat, drink, spend my money on and the people I have in my life or not have in my life) 

 

  • Matter in 10 minutes, 10 months, 10 years 

 

LOOKING AHEAD 

 

The knowledge that everything you do will matter at some point, that it will have a consequence of some kind, whether it’s in 10 mins, 10 months or 10 years will help you be more discerning about how you live your life day to day. 

 

Before I started living my life by design, I truly was living by default because I was carried along through life by automatic thoughts, feelings and behaviours and that’s how I was creating the experiences of my life –the trouble was those experiences weren’t the ones I wanted to have. 

 

That’s why its important to aware of your daily thoughts, feelings and behaviours regarding your health, wealth, relationships and your happiness.

DECISIONS YOU’RE MAKING TODAY WILL LEAD YOU TO YOUR LIFE 10 YEARS FROM NOW 

 

Of course, you can never know the consequences of any decision you make, so don’t get too caught up in things. 

 

But in general, you know what’s helpful to you and what’s not. 

 

In life you have to plan for the long game and play for the short one. 

 

That means, plan to live forever, play like you won’t. 

 

Enjoy life now, do not wait, life is happening this very moment and you want to milk every one of those moments, but take care of your health, your wealth, your mind and body and your relationships like you are going to live forever, because you will most likely live a lot longer than you think and you want those bonus years to be great ones too. 

 

REMIND YOURSELF DAILY 

 

“Everything I do will matter today, tomorrow , AND most likely, in 10 years time. 

 

You are who you are, and living the way you’re living because of the choices you made yesterday, the day before, last week, last month, last year and all the years before.  

 

It’s helpful to ask yourself as you move into 2024, “What am I willing to choose to do now, so I can have the life I’ve been looking for?” 

 

Your present is practice for your future. 

 

In 10 years will you be glad of what you did today?
