Food made me feel like a locust on a wheat field!

Do you have
foods that completely trigger you

You know, the ones where one’s too many and 100’s not enough, and you find yourself devouring them like an unstoppable eating machine?

I used to be caught on that perpetual wheel, bewildered and desperate to find a way out. If I asked myself once I asked myself 1000 times "Why can't I stop this? How do I break free?"

I asked everyone around me, searching for answers to those questions. And you know what I discovered? They had no idea! They all felt as powerless and bewildered as I did that what we wanted consciously, had no bearing on unconscious behaviours we had set in place.

What I discovered after my very long 25 year quest to resolve this problem was that the secret lies in allowing ourselves to outgrow those foods.

And out growing something leads to feeling indifferent to triggering foods which is where freedom lives.

Instead of...

Ever found yourself knee deep in a chocolate bar and wondered how you got there?

Ever found yourself in the kitchen with the cookie jar under your arm and a cookie or 3 already gone and wondered how you got there and why you didn’t notice?

We spend most of our life operating on auto pilot and our eating habits are no different.

The brain invented auto pilot to save us time and energy. It’s super clever, it learns how to do something, which to be fair can be rather tedious, and then to save us time and energy it bookmarks how and when to do that task and then your brain leads your body around like a puppet, so you can think about other things.

Some of the things that are bookmarked are called life skills and talents and others are called habits

Cooking is a life skill.

Standing in the kitchen with the cooking jar under your arm and 3 cookies in before you notice you’re doing it, that’s a habit

And it’s these auto food habits we...

Why oh why can't I stop eating so I can relieve myself of the weight?

This week we’re talking about simplicity.

A friend of mine was walking one of the Camino trails in Spain and realised she’d packed way too much in her backpack. After many days and walking over 100kms struggling with all the extra weight, she finally asked herself an insightful question; “Where else in life am I carrying too much?”

I totally related to her story; I had 25 years struggling with excess weight, now that was cumbersome.

Not just on my body but, on my mind, the constant thinking about it exhausted me.

From the minute I got up to the minute I went to bed, there was never any peace, and it seeped into every area of my life.

The constant questioning about why couldn’t I get rid of the fat? Why did I have this burden, and why oh why couldn’t I stop eating so I could relieve myself of the weight?

Not to mention the endless thoughts about food:

What can I eat? What...

The $64,000 question is what’s making us fat?

There’s only 1 reason we’re overweight, and that is that we can’t stop eating.

But why can’t we stop? How come sometimes we can control “wanting” and other times, “wanting” has control over us?

And why does that wanting turn into a juggernaut of unconscious eating that sweep us away like a runaway freight train causing us to gain weight time and time again?

We’re intelligent and accomplished, we organise busy, successful lives, we're capable of obtaining degrees and diplomas, and running businesses, families and households.

There is seemingly nothing we can’t do when we put our minds to it, so why can’t we control our eating so we can lose weight for life?

Some studies indicate that our inability to successfully change our eating habits is because we consume foods that have the same addictive qualities as heroin and crack cocaine.

And it’s true, highly processed foods are manufactured to make them so good that...

What is worst for your health?

Which one of these do you think is the worst for your health?

Is it;

McDonald's fries every day
Alcohol every day
Chocolate every day or
Stress every day?

According to NASD, 90% of illnesses and diseases are stress-related that can interfere with your physical functioning and body processes.

We all know that stress makes you put on weight not only from the cortisol that it throws into your system but it also makes you reach for food.

If you manage your stress and if you feel relaxed, you wouldn't be looking for those things to soothe you.

A happy person makes better decisions.

But stress is a part of life. When things don't go the way we plan and things don't work the way want, we get frustrated and it makes us cranky. And it is our job to manage our stress levels and not go straight to frustration.

It's all about;

Understanding why you're feeling what your feeling
Become aware of your feelings
Change your return

When you can take charge of your emotions, feelings and, you...
