Here we are in fabulous July.
That strange little month where half the year has slipped past… and the pressure starts to creep in.
The goals you set in January are staring back at you, half-finished or untouched.
Maybe you’re tempted to reboot, refocus, or make up for lost time right now?
But what if you changed your perspective from “Crap, I thought I would be much further along by now!” to “”This is a relay not a race, let me expand my vision out further and build on what I’ve already accomplished”
Most people will spend the next 2 months trying to get some traction. Then they will get to September, realise that really, they only have 2 more months until the compounding effects of Christmas starts to be seen in their diary and they will pick up their pace and try to get 6 months of tasks done in 2. They’ll then lose all momentum in December, only to start over again in January…. why is it the same every year.
Well, here’s an idea for you to try.
Instead of shrinking your goals to fit the rest of this year - expand your vision - don’t make it bigger or bolder - that’s not going to get you to success.
Instead, add on phase 2, let me explain what will come after what you’re working on right now?
If you’re currently focused on losing 10kg, what are you going to do when you have?
I mean, you must have an idea in your mind of why you want to lose that 10kg, or it wouldn’t be your goal, right?
So what is it that you want to do after you’ve lost the 10kg?
Are you planning to:
✦Go on a holiday
✦Be ready for a big event
✦Go weekend camping with the family
✦Play tennis
✦Go to the beach
✦Be more adventurous
Extend your plan out to July 2026.
Reset the plan from now until the end of February when the kids go back to school.
Be sure to take in what will happen over that Dec, Jan, Feb period and how you’re going to enjoy yourself whilst still working from a pre-designed plan of approach.
Then create phase 2 of your plan, what you’re going to do from February to the end of July 2026. This should be about how you’re going to continue enjoying the success of having improved your health and lifestyle through the great choices you make on your path to losing that 10kg.
You’ve got more time than you think, start changing your perspective. Goals are not one time things, they are living breathing steps towards living the life you want to live. They are the stepping stones to your future.
