How to turn your bathroom scales into friend not foe

Are you bathroom scales a friend or foe?

Do you give your bathroom scales too much power over your happiness?

I did.

Until I realised I was asking them for the wrong information.

Instead of asking them to tell me how much weight I was losing when I was on a diet, I should have been using them every day to tell me how much weight I was putting on!

The brain is a tricky thing and it used to always befuddle me how I could gain 20kg without noticing?

Yes, you heard me right…I could put on 20kg’s without noticing!

Maybe you’ve had the same experience?

I don’t know how many times I asked myself “How on earth did I gain 20kg without noticing?

Well, here’s the answer, and it’s a ridiculously simple one too……

It happens because we simply stop stepping on the bathroom scales when we don’t like what they tell us.

Instead of using the information in a constructive way i.e.; take note of what’s happening and make small...

Know your foods so you can #noyourfood™

Abstainers and Moderators: Which are you with which foods?

Moderator: a person who can open a bottle of beverage, a block of chocolate, a bag of crisps, a packet of lollies or biscuits or have a particular cuisine and only eat 1 serving of it.

This means they can put the rest back in the fridge or cupboard and forget about it until another day, then the next time, just have one serving and put it aside again. They can even have it in plain sight all day every day and still only have one serving every other day with ease.

Abstainer: a person who is not a moderator with certain foods and despite their best efforts, they consume most or all in one sitting. Their best course of action with those food and beverages is to abstain from them. The saying that one’s too many and one hundred’s not enough is their motto for those items.

To know if you need to abstain from certain food and beverages, consider if once something has been bought or opened whether it must be eaten, and...

Overcome Weight Loss Obstacles Tip:

Don’t burn the candle out at both ends; this seems like a no brainer statement but it’s increasingly disregarded as we strive to achieve more at the expense of our sleep.

Getting good quality sleep will help you manage your emotions better which in turn will help you choose health giving life supporting energy building food and beverages.

When we’re tired we consistently reach for food and beverages to “pick us up” but the reality is they push us down.

Alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages and even sugary beverages at night also cause poor sleep patterns which lead to brain fog and feeling lethargic the next day, which leads you to continuing the cycle of looking for pick me ups, which adds stress to your mind and body, which leads you back to looking for either more pick me up foods or soothing your rough emotional states with food.

Sleep is your friend, it will help you achieve more simply because you will think clearer and feel better, which in...

No Your Food

Imagine…you’re at the supermarket, you’ve got a real craving for something salty and crunchy BUT you want to lose weight and improve your health. You’re body and mind are insistent that you satisfy their desire and you find yourself standing in front of the crisps.

You want to pull yourself away, but your feet stay stuck to the floor and your eyes glued to the crisps in front of you. You’re fighting with yourself “No, I don’t want them!” you say, but that other part of you, the one that feels so strong, is saying “Yes you do, they will taste soooo good!”

You break out in a cold sweat, the wanting is pretty intense and you know that you’re not going to be able to walk away empty handed, so your eyes are looking at what’s in front of you and you’re thinking I’ll get the best choice I can make.

What you see on the shelf is potato chips, vegan beetroot chips, lentil crisps, broccoli puffs, cauliflower...

Why do we keep outsourcing our health to others?

We’re the only ones that can create our health. The problem is that we don’t know that we know that.

I remember always looking to others to tell me what to eat and how to exercise, what to do when, and how.

What I realised was all the weight loss plans, no matter how good they were, were really just that, a plan. An off the shelf solution, a one size fits all that at the end of the day really didn’t fit into my life: who I was, what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it.

It was like being given a hiking map that tells me what path to follow through the forest and up to the top of the mountain. It tells me the path to take, but not the obstacles I’d have to overcome along the way to be able to reach my destination.

And that was really the problem that had to be solved, was how to overcome the plethora of obstacles associated with weight loss.

So I developed a process, a system, which resolves the obstacle of overcoming the obstacles.

10 years later, that...

Don’t dig your grave with your own knife and fork...

I remember when I first read that quote many many years ago, it shocked me as I hadn’t really thought about it in that way.

I struggled with my weight for a quarter of a century and I was ashamed and bewildered that I kept regaining the weight time and time again.

I didn’t understand back then that what I really needed wasn't another weight loss program what I needed was help to overcome the weight loss obstacles I had so I could lose the weight and keep it off.

Finally, in 2011, I developed a program to overcome those obstacles so I could change the habits and behaviours I wanted to change so I could lose weight my way and lose it for life.

Overcome Weight Loss Obstacle Weight Loss Tip: Love your body, treat it well.

diets & dieting Jun 22, 2022

I recently heard of a weight-loss plan that combines daily injections of a hormone that’s released during pregnancy and is extracted from the urine of pregnant women.

Along with the daily injections you can only eat 500 calories a day.

The cost of the hormone is nearly $1500 for a 5 week supply and the weight loss really comes from the highly restricted caloric intake and apparently the hormone doesn’t assist with the weight loss or reducing appetite.

Among some of unpleasant short term potential side effects of the hormone are stomach pain and swelling, severe pelvic pain and shortness of breath. While some of the long term side effects include fatigue, depression, and possible blood clots along with….weight gain!

Although I never did this particular diet, I did do some crazy diets over the quarter of a century that I yo yo dieted, I always seemed to be trying to manipulate my body using some weight loss strategy that would trick it into giving up the fat and...

Imagine that, being happy lead to permanent weight loss!

I became a Dietless Living expert after being stuck in dieting hell for 25 years.

It didn’t matter what I did, nothing ever addressed or resolved the underlying issue behind my weight problem.

I’d reached a few crisis points over my life and each time I cleaned up my life and went to the next level in health and wellness.

Over 25 years I tried every diet, exercise program, alternative wellness programs, talking therapies and a full range of body and healing workers, and moved my life to all things organic, took every pill, powder and potion, but none of it gave me control of the driving force inside me.

In that time I also became a Master of NLP & Neuro Re-Patterning, Kinesiology, became professionally trained in Ericksonian Hypnosis, Results Coaching & Subconscious Reprograming, Suicide Intervention Skills, Pyschosomatic Therapies and studied to be a Naturopath because I wanted to know what drives our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Have you heard this baby elephant metaphor before?

When circus elephants are young, their trainer ties a rope to their back leg then wraps the rope around a heavy stake in the ground. The baby elephant is not strong enough to break free. In time, it learns to be constrained – to not even try.

Later, as a fully mature adult, the trainer only has to tie a rope around the elephants leg and attach the other end to any pole or stake, and the elephant believes it's still trapped, even though it has amazing strength and power and could break free with zero effort. But because it's been conditioned to believe it's not strong enough, it no longer tries.

That's how I felt after years of yo yo weight loss/weight gain. My mind became conditioned to think it was impossible for me to break-free, that it was impossible for me to ever succeed at ditching the weight for life. And as a consequence over time, I'd begin weight loss programs with a limiting belief about my ability to succeed from the get go, and eventually I became unwilling to...

Do you struggle to change your eating habits long term?

Did you know unconscious eating habits, patterns and behaviours are an accumulation of every time you’ve eaten food throughout your entire life?

They're a collection of all the times you’ve had set eating times throughout your life:
At home
At pre-school
At school
Every job you’ve ever had
Every stage of your personal life and every time you’ve self-soothed with food or beverages
And every time you've experienced an emotional connection to a specific food or time for eating food.

Those connections aren't just psychological, they're biological and neurological as well.

You entire mind and body are wired to fire in certain ways, in certain conditions to get you to do certain things.

We're a very intelligent organism and we think of ourselves as humans, like we're different to every other living thing on the planet.

But we aren’t different, we're exactly the same.

Our brain and body are mimicking, learning machines that learn, code and store information,...
